Borreliosis (Lyme Disease) consultation
Numerous infections are transferred by ticks – medical science has only become aware of many of them in the past few years. In addition to borrelia, these include rickettsia, babesia and TBE (tick-borne encephalitis) virus. Borreliosis in particular is difficult to diagnose for some of those infected. Often the infection settles in the body, becomes chronic and can then only be recognised with difficulty. However, as a rule it is always possible to treat the infection.
On +49 (0)30 / 9606094-0 you can arrange an appointment for our consultation in Berlin-Mitte.
We are a private medical institute, which means that we invoice you directly. Most health insurance funds are familiar with our way of working as specialists for infectious diseases and Borreliosis, and reimburse invoices which are submitted to them. However, we cannot guarantee this for every instance. We advise you to ask your insurance fund beforehand whether it will cover the costs. On the telephone we can only give you an approximate idea of the costs involved, as we always decide individually which examinations are really necessary. In any case, our doctors will explain this to you. A first appointment including examination in our Borreliosis consultation lasts approx. 45-60 minutes. For this we charge approx € 120 for those who are insured covered by health insurance – any laboratory examinations necessary are charged separately. Please bring all laboratory results with you which already exist in order to avoid duplication of test.
Borreliosis is a widespread disease. Transmission takes place in the period between April and October, the high season for ticks. In some areas up to 50% of ticks can harbour Borrelia. Since the larvae and nymphs of the ticks are difficult to identify, only 25 % of people infected with Borrelia can remember a tick bite. The probability of transmission increases the longer the tick sucks blood. Fast reaction is therefore decisive in order to avoid infection. You can find further information on Borreliosis in our information sheet on Borreliosis.
Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE)
European Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE) and the Russian variety (Russian Spring Summer Encephalitis, RSSE) are caused by closely related flaviviruses. The disease is transmitted by ticks, in particular Ixodes ricinus, the castor bean tick.
